Garden Inspired Wedding

My mom and I have always shared a bond over 18th century British novels. She loves Jane Austen’s sun-filled gardens, I prefer the Brontë sister’s untamed moors…

…but we both delight in imagining what the wedding of one of our favorite author’s groundbreaking heroine’s would look like today. Designing this styled shoot gave us the opportunity to explore the charm of an English garden wedding through a distinctly modern sensibility.

 Nestled among the sunny windows, manicured terrace, and antique details of Heritage Gardens, we wanted to entice our guests with playful colors and inviting elegance. Spring in an English Garden, like so many places, can be unpredictably cool, grey, and damp. We embraced the moody tones of rain clouds with dusty blue, soft ivory, and heather purple. We brought the garden indoors by adding early spring blooms like hellebore alongside barely budding branches and climbing vines arranged in loose, dynamic, and almost wild shapes. Tradition was a part of each place setting with plates from my mother and grandmother’s wedding china.

A balance between formality and modern whimsy was applied throughout the design, from the refined place settings with subtle leather details, to the bespoke stationary with cheerful accents, the classic tiered cake with delicate marble details, and even the reserved A-line silhouette of the bridal gown and it’s exuberant beading. 

The result was a chic, welcoming and joyful styling that would warm even the cloudiest of early spring wedding days.
